Dane Cook to Make His Stage Debut in “The Producers”

Dane Cook is going to take advantage of his years of stage experience, but in a slightly different way. Deadline reports Cook joined Hollywood Bowl’s upcoming production of The Producers marking his theater debut.

Cook will play Franz Liebkind in the Mel Brooks musical. For those familiar with the play, Leibkind is the Nazi character who pens the Springtime for Hitler play within the musical. It’s also a role portrayed by another funnyman, Will Ferrell in the 2005 film remake. There will be three performances at the Hollywood Bowl on July 27, 28 and 29. Dane joins Richard Kind, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Roger Bart, Gary Beach, and Rebecca Romijn for the musical.

Cook isn’t the first comedian to take the stage, in fact many comedians recently found success on the stage including Jim Gaffigan, Colin Quinn, Chris Rock, and David Alan Grier.

We’ll also see Cook in this upcoming TV season with his new sitcom, Next Caller.
